My Perspective on Sustainability

I mostly thought sustainability was just about protecting the environment, by recycling or reducing waste. But, after learning more in class, I realized that sustainability is much broader. It is not only about helping the planet but also about making sure people can live healthy and stable lives and in the future.

In my life, I try to practice sustainability in small ways. For example, I use a reusable water bottle instead of buying plastic ones, and I make sure to turn off lights and electronics when I am not using them. I also try to not waste food because I know that producing food uses a lot of energy and resources. These habits may seem small, but if many people do them, they can make a big difference.

One idea from class that really made me think was full cost pricing. While it helps the environment by including the true cost of production, it can also cause prices to rise. This made me realize that sustainability is not always simple. Higher prices could make it harder for lower income families to afford basic needs. Because of this, I think sustainability should focus on both environmental protection and fairness so that everyone has the opportunity to live sustainably.

So, it's not just an environmental issue, it is also a social and economic one. Moving forward, I want to be more mindful of my daily choices and continue building habits that support a healthier future for both people and the planet.
